There seems to be a lot of misconceptions flying around in the automotive digital marketing space regarding the types of software and reasons why to use them. Many times this comes from people who claim to be a master of a game that they do not know how to play well in.
In a recent jousting at an automotive social network I watched a well respected consultant show his ignorance of the value of using blogging platforms for automotive digital marketing.
Using blogger.com to set up a series of blogs with a blogspot.com domain for a dealership to promote their business just does not make good sense at all. That coupled with the fact that the blogger publishing platform is the least adaptable software out there is another.
I really do not know whether to be upset that people really listen to this individual and believes the things he publishes or to just laugh and realize his future in this space is headed down the same path Chrysler. If big changes are not made soon it is game over.
One of the big misconceptions is blogs are supposed to be used as pure marketing pieces without providing value to the visitor. Using blogs for business promotion is perfectly acceptable however you need to use it to give the reader value for their time.
Setting up any type of business blog on blogger because of it’s point and click set up is just not good business. Just as using wordpress.com for the same reason. It will only add up to heart ache when it is all said and done.
