I subscribe to many list just to get an idea of what is available out there and to see what is being promoted in the blogging world. Today I finally broke down and checked out some of the “syndication” tools being offered in the marketplace today. The thing that strikes me is that most of it is akin to search engine spam.
Granted I have built RSS generated sites before and mass manipulated content. I did learn real fast though that this is probably not the best way to build anything with real value. Sure you can make some nickle clicks from adsense and even convert a few affiliate offers.
What worries about these new “distribution” channels is the search engines may view the wordpress platform as a spam CMS. There are many more people creating crap with wordpress than those presenting quality content. Maybe I am a reformed spammer behaving like a reformed smoker. You know the ones that go out of their way to bitch about people smoking in public after they did it for 30 years.
What is really bad is the make money niche is learning to use social engagement tools to spam the search engines and others. The thing is how they do it is so identifiable that a child could see through it. What is even worse is people who I respected in the blogging world are promoting this crap.
One of the better known, “How to blog” bloggers Yaro Starak stoops to promoting crap like Syndicate Kahuna even though he publishes decent content. and offers some good real word advice as it relates to making money online. The messages are just mixed.
Granted the email he promoted this swill with said to use it on a dead blog. So on one hand he says create value and on the other he supports spamming the search engines. It is advice like this that may cause everyone with a wordpress blog to feel the wrath of a “Google Slap” when the platform keeps getting invaded by crap products.
