As an Internet Sales Manager I am always looking to network inside of the niche and belong to many automotive marketing social networks. I did an article not long ago about how “Automotive Social Networking is failing miserably” and now understand why.
Social Networking can be a great tool to make friends and find new clients. I do it on a daily basis. However I do not start every conversation with a pitch or with back end marketing as the end result. I have even refused several engagements where people have tried to obtain my services, because I really want to learn to do my job better and enjoy helping others that are struggling with grasping a concept not become an online automotive marketing vendor/provider, today.
Many of the social networking sites that deal with online automotive marketing are more of an arena for the vendors to beat their chest and try to pitch everyone that comes along and all are controlled by the vendors. None of them are “dealercentric”.
This has left me with a desire to create a platform for dealership employees to come together to learn to do their jobs better. It is in the works. Hopefully I can get it done this decade…
